UK National Lottery Tickets
National Lottery tickets allow you to play the Lotto game in the UK. This game was originally referred to as the National Lottery when it was first launched in November 1994, and although the game was rebranded as the Lotto in 2002, the National Lottery name is still just as popular among current players. Despite the cosmetic rebranding, the rules of the National Lottery game have remained much the same since it began. There are two National Lottery draws each week, one on Saturday and one on Wednesday, with the Saturday game usually – but by no means always – offering the higher jackpot.
National Lottery players select 6 numbers from the range 1 to 49. When the National Lottery draw takes place a total of seven numbers are drawn from the same range. The first six are used as the main numbers, and if the player matches all of those then they win the jackpot. The seventh number drawn is a ‘Bonus Ball’ number, and this is used to determine the winners of the second tier prize (achieved by matching five of the six main numbers plus the Bonus Ball).
If a player doesn’t want to choose their own National Lottery selections then they can have their numbers generated at random by taking advantage of a Lucky Dip feature. Players can also enter the same set of numbers for several consecutive National Lottery draws in advance, which is a very useful feature, especially for those who intend to go on holiday and want to make sure that they still have a chance of winning whilst they are away.
Profits raised from the sale of National Lottery tickets in the UK go to a variety of ‘Good Cause’ projects that encompass charities, health, education, the environment, sports, arts and heritage. The National Lottery has helped to generate more than £24 billion for such good causes since it was first launched in 1994, so anyone who plays the National Lottery can be proud of the fact that they are helping some very worthy projects as well as giving themselves the chance to become the next National Lottery jackpot winner.
The National Lottery has five prize levels including the National Lottery jackpot itself. The table below illustrates the numbers required to win at each level, and the odds of succeeding:
